Hal Howland-William Faulkner collection, 1954-1973.

The collection consists of material assembled by Hal Howland concerning the foreign travel of William Faulkner in the 1950s. The collection contains letters, Dept. of State Foreign Service Dispatch documents, press releases, correspondence, translations of foreign newspapers, photographs, newsclippings, and a press coverage scrapbook about Faulkner together with drafts for two articles about Faulkner by Howland. The material covers visits to Peru, Brazil (with Robert Frost), Japan, Germany, Italy, Iceland, the Philippines and Greece where he attended a gala performance of "Requiem for a Nun." Correspondence, 1968-1976, of Howland with publishers concerns his article "Midnight ride with William Faulkner." Correspondents include Dorothy B. Commins, Donald S. Klopfer, Elizabeth Langhorne and Alexander D. Wainwright.
